Description

This Build Project will help you understand how to conduct fundamental investment analysis on consumer stocks. You will analyze real-world financial data, assess industry trends, dive deep into different business models, and develop valuation assessment for consumer companies. Through hands-on activities, you will gain essential skills for roles in financial analysis and equity investments. The final deliverable is an investment pitch, which you can use for interviews for entry-level equity analyst positions.

What you will learn

  • Analyze consumer business models and identify key revenue and margin drivers.
  • Assess industry trends and competitive dynamics based on techniques like Porter's Five Forces.
  • Evaluate financial health using financial statements and key performance metrics; forecast company's future financial performance in an Excel-based financial model.
  • Apply valuation techniques like DCF and multiples analysis to estimate the intrinsic value of consumer companies.
  • Confidently present and defend investment recommendations.

Prerequisites

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel which will be used for constructing a financial model for target company.
  • Knowledge of financial statements, basic accounting principles, and key performance indicators like revenue growth, gross margins, and operating expenses.
  • Familiarity with valuation techniques such as P/E ratios, EV/EBITDA, and discounted cash flow analysis.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills to convey insights effectively.
