Description

In this Build Project, you will take on the role of a manufacturing engineer focused on optimizing the gear production process for critical industries such as automotive, aerospace, and renewable energy. Gears are essential for efficient power transmission, and improving their manufacturing directly enhances product performance and reduces operational costs. You will conduct a detailed analysis of gear design, material selection, cutting tools, and machine setup with the goal of producing high-quality gears at competitive costs and lead times. Through research into current technologies and best practices, you will develop an optimized process flow, validate key production parameters, and propose strategies to minimize tool wear, reduce downtime, and ensure consistent precision. This project equips you with practical skills and insights to implement a cost-effective, high-efficiency gear manufacturing strategy tailored to evolving industrial needs.

Prerequisites

  • A strong understanding of gear mechanisms, gear types, and power transmission, including how gears interact in mechanical systems to optimize torque, speed, and efficiency.
  • Familiarity with material properties like hardness, wear resistance, and heat treatment processes, as these affect gear durability and machinability.
  • Ability to read and interpret gear design drawings, including gear geometry, tolerances, and GD&T symbols, along with basic CAD or SolidWorks knowledge for visualizing designs.

Jagdish is a Manufacturing Engineer at C-B Gear and Machine Inc, TX, where he focuses on improved gear performance, performs design calculations and prepares material specifications, manufacturing recommendations to improve gear performance. Device and execute a methodology for discovering and analyzing new technology development relevant to manufacturing processes. Provide technical information concerning manufacturing or processing techniques, materials, properties, and process advantage, and limitations which affect long range plant and gear engineering planning. Jagdish has over 22 years of experience in the manufacturing, Service and Repair field. Jagdish has exposure in gearbox wind turbine industry in trouble shooting the failures related to gearbox and accessories at Wind turbine sites. He holds a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. A fun fact about Jagdish is that he is fluent in 4 languages besides English and has a multilingual songs playlist.
