Description

Camera-embedded smartphones dominate the market, and there's an increasing demand from users for advanced image-to-text recognition features. This demand creates many interesting challenges for Software Developers. For example, how can you detect and extract text from an image with low resolution, distortion, lack of illumination? In this Build Project, you will wear the hat of a Signal Processing Engineer and solve some of these challenges using Python and OpenCV. Under the supervision of an experienced Build Fellow, you will develop an image processing system to look at natural scene images and detect any text in it. You will become familiar with industry tools like Python, OpenCV and some Machine Learning. All this will happen in an environment that simulates the operations of a real Signal Processing / Computer Vision Team.

Electrical Engineering Fellow
Open Avenues Foundation

I am Akshta Suresh, an Electrical Engineering Fellow at Open Avenues and a Training Manager at Building Momentum. Building Momentum is a problem-solving organization that uses the technology of tomorrow to solve problems of today. We work as contractors with various parts of the government to provide training on various state of the art technology starting from designing, 3D printing to drones and SDR technology. At Open Avenues, I am going to run a Build Project for Text Detection in Images using image processing and coding. It'll be a fun and informative project and I look forward to get many students equipped with necessary skills for the industry.
