Description

A mechanical designer walks between the realms of science and creativity. In this Build Project, you - the ambitious innovators, will understand how to develop an idea by following engineering design principles. You will learn to identify a problem strategically, use brainstorming tools to create multiple ideas, and use your engineering knowledge to develop these ideas for production.

During your project, you will apply practical mechanical engineering tools used in the industry to maximize the reliability of your solutions. Skills learned during this project will help you understand the fast iteration of idea development and follow-through required to excel in a modern engineering environment.

Prerequisites

  • Understanding of Mechanical Engineering Principles. You should be able to understand concepts like the properties of materials and the design of machine elements.
  • Working Principles of Newtonian Mechanics and static systems to walk through a problem. This includes Free-body diagrams, various types of forces, and an understanding how they interact.
  • Knowledge of CAD software for mechanical engineering applications: You should develop and refine intricate mechanical designs using CAD platforms such as SolidWorks, with expertise typically gained through coursework in areas like Computer-Aided Design or Mechanical Drafting.
