Storytelling is a powerful marketing tool, and when it’s aligned with market research, it can create deeper connections with consumers. In this Build Project, you will learn how to craft a compelling brand story by leveraging easily accessible market research tools. The goal is to show you how consumer insights, such as trends, behaviors, preferences, and needs, can influence a narrative and strengthen its impact. Using free and basic online research tools (like Google Trends, social media analytics, or surveys), you will gather insights and then apply these findings to develop an engaging brand story. The final product will be a brand story that is not only creative but also data-driven.
Understand the basics of storytelling and how consumer research insights can help create more engaging brand stories. You will learn the fundamentals of storytelling in marketing and how market research helps in shaping brand narratives.
Review successful brand stories and analyze the consumer research data (or insights) that shaped them. Learn how to evaluate brand stories from a market research perspective. Present a summary of one successful brand story, including how market insights influenced its development.
Develop a product or service idea and define its target audience, using basic market research tools such as surveys or Google Trends. You will identify the target audience for your brand story using research data.
Introduction to basic storytelling elements such as characters, conflict, and resolution. Use consumer insights to create a framework for a brand story. Develop a structure for the brand story that includes key insights derived from market research.
Discuss different content formats (video, blog, infographic, social media post) and how to choose the best delivery method based on audience insights. Learn how to create a brand story tailored to the chosen content format and target audience preferences. Produce a plan for how the brand story will be presented (e.g., video, blog post, etc.).
You will start writing your brand story, applying the research insights you’ve gathered to make it emotionally resonant. Write the first draft of the brand story.
Refine the brand story, improving its emotional connection and clarity after receiving feedback.
You will present your final brand story, explaining how market research influenced the narrative and its ability to connect with the target audience. Present the final brand story, demonstrating how consumer insights shaped the story.
