Develop a stock pitch – an investment thesis backed by data and analysis to support a recommendation, incorporating valuation metrics and a discussion of potential catalysts and risks associated with the investment.
This Build Project is designed to give you a strong foundation in the value investing process, an investment philosophy that guided legendary investors like Warren Buffet and Mario Gabelli. It’s an investment approach that helps investors identify, research, and buy securities priced well below their true market value. In this Build Project, you will pick up tools and strategies to collect and analyze information as well as an integrated framework that teaches you how to identify opportunities for investment that others may miss. Knowing the basics of Warren Buffet’s philosophy is a must for starting an investment career, no matter what type of investing you are interested in and what asset class. This project will be most valuable for students looking to go into investment management, investment banking or corporate finance.
By the end of the project, you will be able to:
Get to know the Build Fellow and other students, learn about rewarding careers in investment management, and set your expectations for the course.
Learn the essence of value investing and how Warren Buffet became a billionaire.
You will learn how to screen the market and pick a company that you want to research.
What does the business do? How do they make money? What makes it a strategically interesting company? What can they build next? Who are their customers? This will be included in the first section of the report.
Learn about different valuation techniques used in the industry. Determine if the stock is undervalued and what the potential for your future return is. Can you double your money?
Create an investment thesis that will be backed by research and valuation. Answer the question: what makes you think that this stock will outperform the market?
