The Art and Science of Profitable Product Development project empowers you to transform a product idea into a viable business proposition by guiding you through each stage of the product lifecycle with a focus on profitability.
Throughout this Project, you will conduct competitive analyses, assess market potential, establish revenue models, and construct a financial plan that evaluates costs, revenue, and profitability. Leveraging Agile methodologies and feature prioritization techniques, you will develop a comprehensive product roadmap that balances customer needs with strategic business goals. By the end of the course, you will present a data-backed roadmap and profitability analysis for your product, preparing you for real-world product management and strategic planning.
Meet the Build Fellow and fellow students, dive into the basics of Product Management and its connection with Finance and set course expectations. You will brainstorm initial product ideas to develop over the course, install essential tools, and prepare for your first steps in competitive analysis.
Learn the tools and techniques for conducting a thorough competitive analysis, using frameworks like SWOT and Porter’s Five Forces. You will select a product idea, map out its competitive landscape, and begin understanding product positioning in the market.
Explore the concept of TAM (Total Addressable Market) and its importance in determining market size and revenue potential. You will calculate TAM for your product, laying the foundation for evaluating overall market opportunity and profitability.
Discover different SaaS pricing models, including subscription and freemium options. You will select and justify a pricing model for your product, setting up a foundation for revenue forecasting and aligning pricing with market expectations.
Learn to build a financial model in Excel, incorporating revenue projections, cost structures, and profit margins. You will estimate costs and project revenue to assess the financial viability of your product, ensuring that profitability remains a central focus.
Gain insight into Agile and Scrum methodologies, learning how they support iterative development and adaptability in product management. You will participate in a mock sprint planning exercise, establishing a process for refining and prioritizing product features.
Learn to create a product roadmap that aligns with product goals and timelines. You will prioritize features, create a roadmap for your product with clear milestones and deliverables, preparing for the final presentation.
In the course finale, you will present your product roadmaps along with profitability justifications, incorporating competitive positioning, market size, pricing strategy, and financial projections. Peers and Fellows will provide feedback, concluding the journey from product concept to a profitable plan.

Nirit has over 12 years of experience in the tech field, with a focus on product management in recent years.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering and Management from Tel Aviv University and a Master of Business Administration from Harvard Business School.
A fun fact about Nirit is that she loves to travel and has visited over 20 countries, with Japan being her favorite destination.
