My job search journey has been anything but linear. During my junior year in college, I was eager to start my career but quickly realized that finding the right opportunity would take time and perseverance. I knew that I wanted to get into consulting to advise on strategies. It wasn’t easy—there were times when I questioned whether I was on the right path, but each period taught me something valuable, whether it was improving my interview skills or better understanding of what I truly wanted from my career. Securing my current position in consulting was a combination of strategic networking and persistence. I made sure to reach out to professionals in the field, attending coffee chats and industry events to build relationships. If I could go back and talk to my younger self, I would say this: “Don’t be afraid of uncertainty or failure. The path to building a successful career is rarely straightforward, and it’s okay if you don’t have everything figured out right away.” I used to think that there was a set timeline for achieving certain milestones, but I’ve learned that growth happens in phases, and sometimes the best opportunities come from unexpected detours. I’d also remind myself that rejection is part of the process. Every ‘no’ is a step closer to the right ‘yes.’ In the early stages of my career, I took each rejection personally, but looking back, I realize that each one helped me refine my skills, understand my strengths, and become more resilient. The right opportunity is out there, but it takes time and persistence to find it. Lastly, I would tell myself to embrace networking and asking for help. Building relationships is key to long-term success, and no one achieves their goals alone.
