Introduction
I’m the General Manager of a private members’ club in New York focused on longevity. It’s incredible to think that my journey has taken me from Austria to New York, filled with unexpected twists and turns, ultimately leading me to a place where I can truly make a difference.
This is especially true because my career path has been anything but linear. I’ve worked in various industries and held different positions, from marketing to operations, because I was never entirely sure in which field I wanted to specialize. This journey, though seemingly scattered at times, shaped me into a generalist with a broad skill set, something that’s invaluable in my current role. Each job taught me something unique, from managing a team to understanding the nuances of customer experience, all of which I apply daily in my current position.
As the General Manager, my days are never the same, which is one of the things I love most about my job. I oversee all aspects of the club’s operations, ensuring that every detail contributes to our members' experience. From coordinating events to managing staff and even getting involved in strategic planning. It’s a challenging position, but it’s one I wouldn’t trade for anything else.

:
My journey to becoming the General Manager of a private members’ club was anything but straightforward. When I studied Business Administration, I didn’t have a clear career path in mind. In fact, the uncertainty about my future is what drew me to business in the first place—its flexibility and wide range of possibilities were really appealing.
Landing my current job was all about networking and being in the right place at the right time. I got every position through connections, hard work, and a lot of effort in improving myself. It’s been a journey of figuring things out as I made the most of every opportunity. And a lot of jumping into cold water.
What would you tell your younger you regarding building your current career?
If I could go back and give my younger self some advice, I’d say, "Don’t be afraid to try different companies, fields, and positions." I’ve learned that exploring various paths is crucial for finding what truly resonates with you.
There was a time when I was told to stay at a company because it was the 'safe' choice, but deep down, I knew it wasn’t where I belonged. I’d tell myself to trust that instinct. Staying in a role just because it’s secure isn’t worth it if it doesn’t align with who you are and what you want. But at the same time, I’d remind myself that not every challenge is a sign to move on. Just because something is difficult doesn’t mean it’s wrong for you. Stick it out when it matters, but always listen to your gut when it comes to your career choices.
Final thoughts & tips
There were times when I jumped into something new with no idea how it would turn out, and those were the moments that shaped me the most. Over time, you’ll see how all the pieces—those varied jobs, fields, and challenges—start to come together. Stay flexible, keep your mind open to new possibilities, and most importantly, chase after what genuinely excites you. That passion will guide you through the twists and turns, and make the journey worthwhile. One more thing: if you find yourself thinking, "I have no idea what I’m doing," just remember—most people are just winging it too. Embrace the chaos, and you’ll be fine!
